Five Minutes
Neajah Brown
We went as friends that afternoon and the grave didn’t hold us down
Instead the sun wrapped its hands around our torsos
Lifting us up into its universe
Warming up every part of our bodies like a summers day
No sunburn this time
The sun reached its hands into our hearts
Pumping light through each vein
You said that this made you feel alive
I said four more minutes
You clutched my hand
Our planets froze on their orbit around the sun
A star whispered that not many leave like us
Still in sync with our hearts
A black hole took you and I away
I said three more minutes
Our hands never let go of each other
We ended up in a room of white
Where it began to rain and the ground cracked
We fell through
Back on Earth we appeared where every color was vibrant
And the wind blew the agreement of two minutes
Falling slow enough to say our last words
You cried that you didn’t mean to lose control of the wheel
But to give me a little scare just to shut me up
Four tears rolled together from your eyes to form the word sorry on your cheek
I whispered that what I said wasn’t true
And the ink from my tattoo then spelled I love you,
Just before our bodies hit the ground, there was a long beep
But we thought we had one more minute
