Everyone But Us
Lynn Pittman
He inhales deeply
Exhales legato breaths
His heat mixing with hers creates a blanket
He lies with the back of his head on her heart
His spine on her stomach
He rests fully on top of her
Protecting her from space
His scent comforts her
Subconscious
She is comfortable
With his weight on her
A sexual performance
is clear
she is an african american female
He is a male
The stereotype of
african american females
Being sexual creatures
The stereotype that
All males think
Sex is a daily necessity
Sleeping in her arms
is an act that
should be kept behind
doors that remain closed
until marriage
When they wake
The judgement doesn’t pierce them;
Not yet
She basks in his warmth
He breathes in the used air
She soothes out of her body
Love is not always
Exchanged between two souls
Under covers
Love can be exchanged
In a breath
