2010
Kaila Cherry
I’m sorry I knocked your bike down after school
It was an unfortunate casualty
Subjected to my volcanic explosions
My tongue is magma
Spitting embers
Burning holes in your Telegraph shirt
Please don’t take it personally
I don’t want to ruin her for you
Your sixth grade pipedream
Could possibly be a reality
The chemistry’s there
It’s inevitable
I’m not visiting the Marina anytime soon
The water of the bay chills the air
I taste salt in my bones
Broken glass resides on the gravel
The grass is always dewy
If I lie there long enough I could drown
Your trampoline is covered with dead leaves
We brush them off with big sticks
The clocks have gone backwards
I’m wearing your new hoodie
There is comfort in your static
And the constant hanging up calling back
ebb and flow of our evenings
Four years deep and I am just now learning
That I used to live a few blocks away from your house
I am just now learning
Not to take you for granted
I sent you a text about it last week
And you replied with “I’m sorry”
